YOUR BUFFING FAQ’S ANSWERED.

We will answer the following frequently asked questions about using a polish to buff your car:

How to buff out a car?

How much polish do I use with a buffer?

Does my car need to be clean before buffing?

Do I have to use a buffer to polish my car?

STEP-BY-STEP: How to apply Ulen’s Auto Polish WITH a buffer.

Have a large surface area to cover AND have a buffer in your garage?

Ulen’s Auto Polish works great with an electric buffer. Jim Gerencser of Big Jim’s Detail Garage walks you through the process in the video below.

  1. Start with a cleaned surface. Buffing a dirty car can cause additional scratches and/or damage!
  2. Apply enough Ulen’s Auto Polish on a foam pad to ensure the pad is moist. Do not buff with a dry pad.
  3. Using a dual action buffer/polisher apply firm pressure and move in circular motions across the surface.
  4. Give extra time to highly oxidized spots and scratches until you achieve a smoother surface.
  5. Make sure you keep the buffer moving as letting it run in one spot could also cause damage!
  6. Wet one of your included 100% terry cloth towels. Keep reading and we will explain why we only use terry cloth towels.
  7. Use the WET towel to wipe the excess oil off the surface of the car.
  8. Use a DRY 100% terry cloth towel to wipe up any remaining water off the surface.

STEP-BY-STEP: How to apply Ulen’s Auto Polish BY HAND.

In this video below Big Jim shows you how to apply Ulen’s Auto Polish by hand with nothing more than the product and 100% terry cloth towels.

This process is certainly more time consuming than with using a buffer, but it achieves THE SAME RESULTS as if you had used a machine. Ulen’s Auto Polish is a NO BUFFER NEEDED solution for those of you who don’t own one, or just prefer to do the job by hand.

Don’t let the lack of professional grade equipment stop you from getting professional grade results.

It is possible with Ulen’s Auto Polish.

  1. Remember! Start with a cleaned surface. Buffing a dirty car can cause additional scratches and/or damage!
  2. Apply a quarter size amount of Ulen’s Auto Polish onto a clean and dry 100% terry cloth towel. Lucky you, we include one with every purchase!
  3. With the first coat of Ulen’s Auto Polish you will use light to medium pressure to work the initial application into your surface..
  4. With the second round you will apply heavier pressure working to really clean OUT the dead finish and dirt from the surface pores. .
  5. You will see all the dulling contamination on the towel. What you won’t see is your healthy finish cleaned off. Ulen’s cleans OUT the finish not off.
  6. Wet one of your included 100% terry cloth towels. Use the WET towel to wipe the excess oil off the surfac33e of the car.
  7. Use a DRY 100% terry cloth towel to wipe up any remaining water off the surface.

OTHER FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

While we covered a lot of the specifics with regards to actually polishing your ride, we know there are some more important questions left to answer. Like...

What else can I use Ulen’s Auto Polish on?

Why are you so specific about the towel?

Keep reading and you’ll be sure to be surprised at what Ulen’s Auto Polish can do!

Q: Do I have to use 100% terry cloth towels to buff my car?

A: Yes, while microfiber towels seem to be shop staples these days, with Ulen’s Auto Polish you will need to use 100% terry cloth towels.

They are so important to the process, and we care about customer results, we INCLUDE a towel with your purchase.

AND… for the first 100 orders, we’ll throw in 3 FREE finish towels. These are the 3 towels recommended to do the job perfectly.

Q: Can I use Ulen’s Auto Polish on my brand new car?

A: No! Once your car is about 5 years old you can start using polishing products to remove defects and clean out the paint surface.

On a new paint surface the clear coat is intact and defect free. Polishing before there are scratches, swirl marks, or oxidation will cause the initial coat to wear faster.

In our post about choosing the right polish, we explain how choosing the right polish is like choosing the right sandpaper.

You wouldn’t use sandpaper on a newly built, freshly stained wooden table. But once it’s been worn by time, you would then work to RESTORE it’s beauty.. Think about your car’s surface the same way.

Ulen’s Auto Polish is for restoration, so save it for when it is needed.

Q: What is the best auto polish for classic or vintage cars?

A: Ulen’s Auto Polish! Do you have an original patina you are wanting to restore?

We know a glossy original paint finish can actually increase your car’s value. Ulen’s works to clean out the surface, not off leaving a healthy, nourished and RESTORED paint surface.

We really love our classic cars and go in depth in our post about treating your car like skin

Check it out if you are interested in reading more about how Ulen’s works by treating it like skin.

Q: Can I use Ulen’s Auto Polish on motorcycles?

A: Yes! Motorcycles have the same paint as cars. Just don’t use on a brand new off the lot car and Ulen’s Auto Polish will also restore your two wheel baby.

Q: Can I use Ulen’s Auto Polish on a boat?

A: Yes! While boats are different from cars and motorcycles since they have a gel coat, Ulen’s Auto Polish works great on boats!

We will have an upcoming post specifically about Ulen’s and boats...but we will spill one of our secrets early...Ulen’s is a stand alone product for boats - it cleans AND polishes!

Because you don’t have to follow up with a wax you avoid the dreaded slippery surfaces, which can be extremely dangerous on a boat.
